The St.Clair Boys Freshman team is showing signs of improvement however they are not showing up in the form of wins. Last week the Saints dropped a pair of league games to L'Anse Cruese and South Lake by a combined seven points.
On Tuesday St.Clair let a seven point lead evaporate in route to a 37-34 loss to the Crusaders. Earlier in the year L'Anse Cruese handed the Saints a 28 point drubbing. This time around was much closer and St.Clair had the ball with 14 seconds left to try and tie the game however the play was unsuccessful. Drew McCartney led the balanced scoring with 11 points followed by Ryan Petinger with seven.
On Friday, South Lake came to our gym for another MAC Gold contest with St.Clair looking to avenge an earlier season 20 point loss. Again, the Saints showed the signs of improvement and found themselves down just four at the half. A sluggish third quarter that saw St.Clair only score four points proved to be the difference as a late Saints rally fell short in the 39-35 loss. Drew McCartney and Joey Turner were both in double figures for the Saints and Joe Lindman scored nine. St.Clair did not help themselves as they went 11-28 at the free throw line in the game.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday, February 9th as they wrap up league play at East Detroit followed by the MAC tournament.
