St. Clair Girls Dominate County Swim Meet

MARYSVILLE — It was a great day to be a Saint. For the fourth consecutive year, the St. Clair girls swim team won the St. Clair County meet. The Saints placed first in 11 out of the 12 events and ran away with the title, scoring 380 points. Marine City was second overall (257 points), Marysville was third (240) and Port Huron Unified was fourth (193). "The amount of hours the girls are putting in training for this season (is the difference)," St. Clair coach Mac Roberts said. "Our upperclassmen swam exceptionally well. "Elizabeth Laenen and Molly Likins beat their own meet records. Also, there were surprising swims from some of our rookies who just managed to make the cut then dropped time dramatically when they swam in the meet." Hallie Roman of Port Huron was the only winner not from St. Clair, winning the diving portion of the competition (394.75). Likins won the 200-yard IM (2 minutes, 22.50 seconds) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.64) for St. Clair. The Saints won the 200 medley relay (1:59.41) by an 11-second margin. The Saints also won the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.77) and 400 freestyle relay (4:15.58), Elizabeth Laenen won the 200 freestyle (2:01.43) and the 500 freestyle (5:29.54). Emilee Laenen won the 50 freestyle (26.63) and the 100 freestyle (59.18). Sam Dodson won the 100 backstroke (1:06.71). In the 100 butterfly (1:07.07), Maddie Leaver was the overall winner.
